I am a Father, step father, grandfather, husband to Tracy and a counsellor with over
20 years' experience in the community and private sectors. I have extensive experience
in program development and group facilitation. I developed and facilitated; a grief,
loss and separation group called Transitions on the Gold Coast for eight years and
facilitated a similar group at The Family Centre in South Tweed for three years.
Transitions started out as a group for men and women after separation/relationship
breakdown, but soon developed into a group which catered for a range of life-changing
issues. Over many years I have developed and facilitated a wide range of courses,
groups and educational programs including: Making Anger your Friend, Communication
in Relationships for Couples, Getting it Right, Men's Support, Personal Peak Performance
& EFT, EFT levels 1, 2, & 3, Anti-violence for men, self-development and conflict
resolution. I have worked extensively with individuals, children, couples and whole
families with issues including: anger, depression, anxiety, phobia/s, relationships,
sexuality, past emotional / physical & sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress, families
who have lost loved ones to suicide and personal development.
I am also a Certified
Family Wellness instructor and hold a Bachelor of Social Work from James Cook University
(JCU); I provide family counselling, education & coaching to assist families in developing
and maintaining healthy and fulfilling relationships. I have considerable experience
in working with families in a preventative and educational setting as well as with
families where children are at risk of harm, neglect or abuse.
I am committed to supporting
and developing hope for families, couples and individuals and firmly believe that
people can and do change when provided with consistent and professional support,
tools and guidance.
I have found EFT to be an invaluable tool in working with a multitude
of issues related to past and present abuse, trauma, anger, phobias and depression.
"The results I have witnessed have been beyond anything I could have imagined before
I started using EFT. Nevertheless, EFT is not for everyone and I don't use EFT with
all my clients, but it is one of the most valuable techniques I use. "Overall, I
use a range of counselling models and tools to assist in facilitating change in a
gentle and supportive way. I am experienced in working with: anger & negative emotions,
past physical & emotional abuse, phobia/s & anxiety, pain management, relationships,
communication & personal development.
I currently manage a family counselling and
support team and am Director of Effective Fast Therapies a counselling service based
on the Gold Coast.
I am experienced in organisational training in Conflict Resolution,
Communication skills, Boundary setting and Goal achievement.
How do I provide readers with an essence of who I am through a web-page? It is such
a difficult feat, however, I will try. I am Tracy, wife to John, mother to Joshua
& Nathaniel, Full time Manager of a feminist women’s service, a fearless protector
of house & home and a committed student to EFT. I have also completed an MBA.
I remember
the first time John attempted EFT on me many years ago, I am not afraid to admit
that I have suffered from my share of anxiety attacks. Fear gripped me; my mouth
went dry, my head swam and no words could express the strange things that were occurring
in my body. It was fight or flight! The result was immediate! As a social worker
and counsellor I questioned how it could work, I didn't have to speak about the fear,
I didn't have to do anything except allow someone to tap me through the image I held
in my head. For all my scepticism I was hooked, I have regularly used it in exams,
with my children, for very sad soccer boys, for myself and with others as part of
my professional life.
I have been employed as a Social Worker / Counsellor since
1987 and have worked in the fields of Terminal Care, Cancer, Disability, Physical
Illness and Family Therapy. I have undertaken considerable training (some may call
me a training junkie) and enjoy the challenge of learning new things, hence the Masters
of Business Administration I have completed. In the past 8 years I have held a number
of management roles and this has stimulated my interest and further training in group
and team processes, program development, organizational culture and team communication.
Life
I believe is a journey, with many twists and turns, highs and lows, with luscious
lowlands and stunning vistas. I strive to learn every day and to keep my ears and
eyes open for hidden gems that are always waiting to be discovered. I read this lovely
poem, which connected with my soul.
Before I can listen to another I must learn to listen to myself,
I must first discover
who I am, what my abilities are, what kinds of capacities I possess.
I must determine
not my limitations, but my possibilities.
So many times I am stymied because my capacity
is restrained by my limited vision.
Enjoy your journey, be ever kind to your self,
acknowledge the distance you have traveled and make time to stop and admire the view.
I wish you all the very best for your journey in self-discovery, enjoy the ride!
